ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot, experienced a global outage, leaving many users unable to access its services.
Reports flooded Downdetector, a website that tracks online service disruptions, indicating widespread issues with accessing the OpenAI chatbot.
According to the data, approximately 91% of users encountered problems. Specifically, 7% were unable to access the website, while the remaining users faced login difficulties. Frustrated users turned to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their concerns about the disruption.
OpenAI acknowledged the outage on its official status page, citing "increased latency and errors" impacting both ChatGPT and its associated APIs.
The good news is that the service has since been restored. The official OpenAI Status page confirms that the latency issue has been resolved, stating, "Performance is now back to normal".
The TOI Tech team independently verified the restoration, successfully accessing ChatGPT through both the website and the mobile app without encountering any issues.
