Shubman Gill's magnificent score of 269 against England in the Birmingham Test was met with praise, but also a touch of humor, from his father. The innings, which featured 30 boundaries and three sixes, helped India reach a formidable first-innings total of 587.

Following the second day's play, the BCCI shared a video on Instagram showcasing Gill's reaction to messages from his parents after his impressive innings.
"Well played, I enjoyed watching your batting, and my heart was at peace. You were batting like in your U-16 and U-19 days — I felt very proud," Gill's father said in a voice message. His mother added, "Felt amazing watching you bat, keep going, God bless you."
However, Gill revealed a lighter moment that wasn't included in the voice notes – his father's playful jab about missing a triple century.

"It means a lot coming from him. But he also told me I missed my triple century. Hopefully, we'll end this match on a great note," Gill shared.
Shubman Gill emphasized that only two opinions truly matter to him regarding his cricket: those of his father and his best friend. He values their feedback above all others in his cricketing journey. It's believed his best friend is his national teammate, Abhishek Sharma.
"This message means a lot to me. I think, growing up, I played almost all of my cricket for my dad, in the sense that it was because of him that I started playing. And the only person besides him is my best friend, whom I practised with. These are the only two people, when it comes to my cricket, that I care about and that I listen to," Gill explained.
Now, the Indian team is relying on Gill's substantial innings to give them a significant advantage against England. Having performed admirably with the bat, Gill's leadership abilities will now be tested as he aims to replicate his impact as captain.
