India will face arch-rivals Pakistan in their first Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday in Dubai. The high-profile encounter comes after India’s dominant win over Pakistan in the group stage. Former India seamer Venkatesh Prasad backed Suryakumar Yadav’s side to assert their dominance once again. “There is no need to talk about India and Pakistan now because there is a lot of difference between the two teams. India is always on top. India will definitely win,” Prasad said to ANI.

India enters the Super Four clash carrying momentum from their earlier victory. Fans expect another strong performance in this marquee encounter. The two sides’ first clash came in the backdrop of the Pahalgam terror attack in April and Operation Sindoor, launched by the Indian Armed Forces against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in May. In that match, India chased down 128 runs with seven wickets in hand. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav played a key role, earning the Player of the Match award with figures of 3/18, which restricted Pakistan to 127/9. The game also produced off-field drama. Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube walked off the field without shaking hands with the Pakistani side. TV footage even showed India shutting the dressing room door on Pakistan. Yadav dedicated the win to the Indian armed forces and expressed solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. Pakistan captain Salman Agha did not attend the post-match presentation, leaving coach Mike Hesson to face the media.
The Pakistan Cricket Board later filed a complaint against match referee Andy Pycroft, alleging violations of ICC conduct codes and laws related to the spirit of cricket. In their next group match against the UAE, Pakistan cancelled the pre-match press conference. The team initially stayed inside the hotel, delaying the match by an hour, while the PCB threatened to pull out of the tournament if Pycroft was not removed. After a meeting between Pycroft and the Pakistan leadership, the game went ahead, with Pakistan winning to secure a Super Four spot. Pakistan also cancelled their pre-match presser ahead of this upcoming clash against India. Following Pycroft’s meeting with the Pakistan team, the PCB released a statement claiming that the referee had apologised. A short video of the meeting was shared on social media, though the ICC is reportedly unhappy with the post. While India will look to continue its ruthless brand of cricket, Pakistan could use the off-field controversies as motivation to improve performance. The unpredictable nature of Pakistan’s T20 side ensures that this Super Four clash promises high drama both on and off the field.
