Stay safe… Practice safe checks

By now you probably know the importance of tyre safety… We’ve talked about it enough. How tyres impact the rest of your vehicle, how to look after your tyres in Winter. The worrying thing is the number of people who know they should be checking their tyres, but just don’t have the time, inclination or knowledge to do so.

This blog shares the 4 easy steps to look after your tyres.
Not interested? Think of them as 4 easy steps that could save yours or someone else’s life.

  1. Check your tread depth, it should be above the legal minimum (1.6mm across the central ¾ of the tyre). Pay particular attention to uneven wear, which may indicate your tyres are misaligned. If you do suspect your tyres aren’t correctly aligned we’re happy to carry out a free wheel alignment check.

  2. Make sure you’ve adjusted your tyre pressure in accordance with the load you’re carrying. If you’re unsure of the right pressure you should find it in your vehicle handbook, or use this handy tyre pressure checker from tyresafe.

  3. Check for damage on your sidewalls and wheel rims, especially if you’ve had a run-in with a nasty kerb or pothole. Tyre damage like this can cause slow leaks, so you’ll need to consult a tyre specialist if any damage is visible (Located near Bognor Regis? Come to us!).

  4. Don’t forget to check your spare tyre. Although you may never have used it rubber degrades and hardens over time. If you’ve had your car for a long time make sure you know your spare tyre is fit for purpose.
